The Domestic Church

In our own time, in a world often alien and even hostile to faith, believing families are of primary importance as centers of living, radiant faith. For this reason the Second Vatican Council, using an ancient expression, calls the family the Ecclesia domestica (the domestic church). It is in the bosom of the family that parents are ‘by word and example... the first heralds of the faith with regard to their children...’ It is here that the father of the family, the mother, children, and all members of the family exercise the priesthood of the baptized in a privileged way ‘by the reception of the sacraments, prayer and thanksgiving, the witness of a holy life, and self-denial and active charity.’ Thus the home is the first school of Christian life and ‘a school for human enrichment.’ Here one learns endurance and the joy of work, fraternal love, generous - even repeated - forgiveness, and above all divine worship in prayer and the offering of one's life

We believe that education should enhance family life
  • Parents are welcome on campus and encouraged to participate in the Holy Family community.

  • Parents and siblings are always welcome to participate in Holy Family's Masses and school-wide liturgical celebrations.

  • Parents are encouraged to gather socially in our downstairs welcome area before afternoon pick-up.

  • Events and speakers are arranged for parent- and family-nights, allowing us to grow in our faith and vocation as parents, together.

  • Special days are designated to celebrate fathers and mothers, along with the patron saints of our academy.

  • Lesson plans and enrichment suggestions are sent home monthly and weekly in order to minimize parents' curriculum planning; however, parents retain the responsibility of creating their own daily schedule, assigning grades, and collaborating with teachers to create a program that works for their family.

  • Holy Family Academy regularly communicates with parents, making sure both academy and home days are valuable and productive.
